Pool Safety Regulations - New Queensland Legislation
New laws have been implemented by the Queensland government which affect both enw and existing pools. The aim of these new laws is to further reduce the risk of drowning and serious illness to young children.
These new regulations include the development of a new pool safety register. This register covers all pools associated with:
- Houses
- Units and unit complexes
- Motels & Hotels
- Backpacker and short term accommodation
- Caravan parks
- Mobile van parks
Deadline: 4 May 2010
All owners of the above pools need to check with their local council if their pool is registered after 28 Feb 2011. If you find your pool is not on the register, you still have until 4 May 2011 to ensure this is the case or face a possible fine of up to $2,000. Search to check if your pool is registered here.
Pool Safety Certificates are Required
In addition to the pool safety register, from December 1 2010, a pool safety certificate is required when selling or leasing a property with a pool installed. These certificates must be obtained from a certified pool safety inspector and are valid for 1 year for shared pools, and 2 years for non-shared pools.
